Russian-Chinese relations seen as intrinsically valuable — Russian security chief
MOSCOW, February 21. /TASS/. Relations with China are a priority of Russia’s foreign policy and do not depend on the foreign situation, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev said on Tuesday.
"The course toward the development of strategic partnership with China is an unconditional priority of Russia’s foreign policy. Our relations are intrinsically valuable and do not depend on the external situation," he said at a meeting with visiting Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and member of the CCP Politburo Wang Yi.
According to Patrushev, it has been repeatedly reiterated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, including during his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping last December.
He stressed that Russian-Chinese strategic ties rest on mutually respectful dialogue, responsible behavior in the international arena and shared or similar approaches to the global problems.
Russia and China, in his words, stand for a more just world order, hail those states that are choosing the path of free and sovereign development based on their specifics and traditions. Regular contacts between the two countries’ security services make considerable contribution to the development of bilateral relations. "Bilateral mechanisms of consultations on strategic security, public security, justice and law and order are functioning successfully," he stressed.
Apart from that, Russia continues to cooperate with China within multilateral consultations of security chiefs on the Afghan problem. The latest, fifth, round of these consultations was held in Moscow on February 8. "Constructive cooperation has been established within the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) and BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa)," he added.
