Russian, Indian top diplomats emphasize mutual willingness to boost cooperation

MOSCOW, March 1. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar underscored at their meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday that their mutual aspiration was to step up coordination on the international stage and in multilateral forms, particularly at the United Nations, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"They underscored their mutual willingness to enhance coordination in the international arena and in multilateral formats, primarily in the UN, and also within the SCO, BRICS and the Group of Twenty (G20). They confirmed their compliance with the establishment of a polycentric world order based on fair and democratic principles and the rule of law," the statement said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry added that the two diplomats "agreed to maintain the current course of political dialogue."

According to the ministry, the two diplomats exchanged views on pressing issues of Russian-Indian relations in a constructive manner and reaffirmed their focus on enhancing a particularly privileged strategic partnership in all areas.

Lavrov arrived in the Indian capital on Tuesday evening to attend the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting, scheduled for March 1-2.
