AGENDA

The BRICS International School is a unique scientific and educational program aimed at training young experts specializing in BRICS studies in political, economic, humanitarian fields and other relevant areas of interaction within the five countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

Participants of the programme will be offered a range of specially developed comprehensive courses by top Russian and international experts. The School will allow participants to broaden their professional horizons, develop communication skills, and study specifics of cooperation among the BRICS countries -  their positions on the global arena, prospects of institutionalization of the BRICS format, goals, and priorities of the grouping for the future.

The program includes lectures, master classes, tutorials, case studies, webinars, and presentations.

Working languages: Russian (simultaneous translation to English will be provided). Certain lectures might be offered in English only.

Speakers of the BRICS International School: top Russian and international experts and practitioners, representatives of governmental and non-governmental organizations, ministries and agencies, think tanks with considerable experience in BRICS research.

This year, the BRICS International School will be carried out in conjunction with the Contest for BRICS Young Leaders to identify the most promising projects and papers to enhance practical cooperation among youth from BRICS countries and beyond. Authors of the best projects and papers will be invited to take part in the BRICS International School. The final results of the Contest and the winners will be announced during the closing ceremony.

In 2020 the BRICS International School and the Contest for BRICS Young Leaders are organized within the framework of the Russian BRICS Chairmanship.

PURPOSE

The purpose of the programme is to expand a pool of young experts-BRICSologists for further development of a youth track of cooperation within BRICS as well as to support future-oriented projects and ideas from the young leaders from BRICS countries.

OBJECTIVES

The main objectives of the program are:

• Accumulating intellectual potential of the young experts and introducing new expertise.
• Developing a professional community of the young experts-BRICSologists.
• Supporting the best future-oriented projects and studies from BRICS young leaders.

TARGET AUDIENCE

The BRICS International School invites young diplomats, scientists, journalists, entrepreneurs, Bachelor’s and Master’s students as well as post-graduates from Russia, Brazil, India, China, South Africa, the CIS countries, Europe and Asia, aged from 18 to 35, to attend the school.

TERMS OF PARTICIPATION

Participation in the program will be based on the results of the Contest (see below). Thanks to the support of the partner-organizations, participation in the BRICS International School is free of charge.

Due to the epidemiological situation in the world, the BRICS International School is to be held in a dual format with prevailing participants joining online.

Preliminary results of the contest will be published after October 1, 2020, on the organizer’s website. Successful candidates will be notified by e-mail and invited to take part in the BRICS International School.

RESULTS

Upon completion of the BRICS International School programme, participants will receive certificates. The best projects and studies will be awarded by the Organizing Committee.

CONTEST FOR BRICS YOUNG LEADERS

ORGANIZER

Russian National Committee on BRICS Research

PURPOSES AND OBJECTIVES

• Mobilize the intellectual potential of promising young leaders to develop strategies and solve the most acute problems of BRICS development;
• Support BRICS studies and promote projects and ideas for BRICS development in Russia and beyond;
• Encourage young scientists and specialists in the field of international relations, economics, finance, trade, humanitarian cooperation to engage in the process of the intellectual search for BRICS new development models.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Students, young scientists, diplomats, public figures, entrepreneurs, and journalists from BRICS countries and beyond aged from 18 to 35 are invited to participate in the contest.

The materials submitted for the Contest should represent the future-oriented project or original research of the author or the team of authors (no more than two).

The winners will be announced at the closing ceremony of the BRICS International School. Authors of the best papers and projects will be awarded by the Organizing Committee.

NOMINATIONS

The contest accepts materials within the following three areas:

• the original research on the problems and prospects of BRICS development until 2050;
• projects aimed at the development of practical cooperation within BRICS;
• academic articles and essays devoted to pressing issues of positioning the BRICS in the international arena.

Authors independently choose the area and the theme within the framework of established nominations.

Contest nominations are as follows:

• “Towards a Brighter Future” - original research/article/project that can make a real contribution to the development of the BRICS.  
• “BRICS in the Changing World Order” - original research/article/project devoted to the development of a new strategy for BRICS to promote its role in global governance.
• “Digital BRICS” - original research/article/project on BRICS cooperation in the digital era.

TERMS OF PARTICIPATION

Applications are accepted within established nominations until September 25, 2020,  23.59 (GMT+3).

Research, articles, and projects should be written following the Requirements (see below).

Please note that the Organizing Committee will only consider applications meeting the established Requirements.

Advertising materials and information materials published on commercial terms can not be considered as materials applicable for the Contest.

The copyright for the submitted materials should belong to the authors so that their use and distribution do not violate Russian and international copyright laws. Responsibility for compliance with the copyright laws falls on the authors submitted the materials.

Submitted materials are not reviewed or returned to the applicants.

​ORGANIZING COMMITTEE

The process of evaluation is as follows:

• Organizing Committee: carries out all the activities for the preparation, conducting the Contest and its information support. The Organizing Committee carries out a preliminary expert assessment of applications, makes shortlists for each of the nominations, and submits them to the Jury.
• Jury: is formed by the Organizing Committee of the Contest from outstanding experts, scientists, and members of the public. Considers applications submitted to shortlists; determines the winners of the contest.  

WINNERS’ SELECTION PROCESS

The Contest is to be held in three rounds.

1^st  round: September 3-25, 2020.

Registration and first expert evaluation of applications. Formation of shortlists.

2^nd  round: September 25-30, 2020.

Based on the shortlists, the Jury determines the participants of the BRICS International School. The decision of the Jury is drawn up in a protocol and published in the media.

3^rd  round: October 1-10, 2020.

According to the results of the School, Jury determines the winners from among the participants. The decision of the Jury is drawn up in a protocol and published in the media. The best studies and projects will be awarded.

AWARDS

By the decision of the Jury, the winners will be awarded diplomas and prizes.

The Contest results are announced at the ceremony and published in the media.

REQUIREMENTS

1. Manuscript  should be written within the topics corresponding to the Contest nominations.
2. A typical manuscript is from 2500 to 3000 words including tables, references, captions, footnotes and endnotes.
3. Language: English.
4. It should be compiled in the following order: 
   1. title in bold; 
   2. organization/university, name and surname, country and city, contact information (e-mail);
   3. abstract (about 100 words; Times New Roman, 14; line spacing: 1.5 lines);
   4. keywords (3-5) ;
   5. main text (Times New Roman, 14; line spacing: 1.5 lines);
   6. footnotes (Times New Roman, 10; line spacing: single);
   7. references (not necessary) (Times New Roman, 14; line spacing: 1.5 lines);
5. Two blanks at the beginning of each paragraph in the text. The independent citations are indented by two squares, one on each side, and no extra quotation marks.

6. Foreign words and all titles of books or plays appearing within the text should be italicized; the title of the article should use double quotation marks "".

7. The page number and the date of publication appearing in the text or comments should be expressed in Arabic numerals and in the AD year.

8. All citations need to be listed in detail. Please refer to the following bylaws:
